La Feria hasn't had much luck against Hidalgo recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as La Feria comes in on four and Hidalgo on seven.
La Feria proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 20) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Valley View 5-3.
Ricardo Cisneros spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Andruw Rivera was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Gomez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Hidalgo made easy work of Valley View last Tuesday and carried off a 10-1 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Brent Ian Szczuroski made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Santiago Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Jose Gonzalez was another key player, earning one RBI and two runs.
Hidalgo pushed their record up to 11-5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for La Feria, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. La Feria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Hidalgo struggles in that department as they've averaged .315. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Feria might still be hurting after the 12-3 loss they got from Hidalgo in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
