The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 13th straight loss. They were beaten by Westwood 74-37. Lugoff-Elgin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-15.
Despite the loss, Lugoff-Elgin had strong showings from Jillian Rush, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds, and Teryn Hobson, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. Hobson hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games.
Leading Westwood to victory were Aneya Britt and Kamirra Clarke. Britt dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Clarke scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Clarke scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimauri Chatman, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Lugoff-Elgin's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-15. As for Westwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lugoff-Elgin will square off against A.C. Flora at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. A.C. Flora presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lugoff-Elgin in South Carolina (A.C. Flora is ranked 21st, while Lugoff-Elgin is ranked 156th). Westwood won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Ridge View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Saturday.
