Forks is 0-10 against Montesano since April of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. Forks has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Forks came up short against North Beach on Tuesday, falling 21-8.
Kailyn Crowder put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Crowder was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That hit marked the first that she has got this season.
In other batting news, Adera Thiel was cooking despite her team's loss, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Sara Sifuentes, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Montesano got themselves on the board against Tenino on Thursday, but Tenino never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Beavers. Considering the Bulldogs have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Violet Prince tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Grace Gooding was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Addison Potts was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Montesano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive games.
Montesano is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Forks, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Forks hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Montesano struggles in that department as they've averaged .395. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Forks suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Montesano when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
