The Auburndale Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Phillips Loggers at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Auburndale is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Auburndale gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Edgar 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Wildcats since April 14, 2023.
Morgan Griesbach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chesney Nagel, who went 3-for-4 with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Daelynn Blomberg, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Auburndale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Phillips won against Rib Lake on Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Loggers walked away with a 9-6 win over the Redmen. The victory continues a trend for the Loggers in their matchups with the Redmen: they've now won four in a row.
Phillips also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Annaka Tobias gave up five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Raelee Williams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Trinity Smith, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Auburndale's record is now 7-1. As for Phillips, their record now sits at 8-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Auburndale has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Phillips struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Auburndale's way against Phillips when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Auburndale made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
