Riley Golden was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Golden wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Karson Stiefer, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Palatine narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Solorio 6-4. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Sun Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Peter Mulhern, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ian Sherman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Palatine's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Prairie Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 6-1-1.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Prairie Ridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Palatine struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Prairie Ridge took their victory against Palatine when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2. Does Prairie Ridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Palatine turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
