Basketball Recap: Michael Johnston's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Seven Rivers Christian over Cambridge Christian

Seven Rivers Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cambridge Christian Lancers. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly three points.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Johnston, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. That's the most assists Johnston has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Stasio, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 19 boards.

Even though they lost, Seven Rivers Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Cambridge Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Martinez out in front who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Proffitt, who put up 17 points.

Seven Rivers Christian now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Cambridge Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Seven Rivers Christian will take on Bishop McLaughlin Catholic in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Seven Rivers Christian has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 1-3 during that stretch of close contests. Cambridge Christian and Shorecrest Prep will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge Christian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
