Owyhee is 6-1 against Rocky Mountain since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Storm will take on the Grizzlies in a tournament on Wednesday. Owyhee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Owyhee is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Eagle, who was ranked fifth at the time (Owyhee was ranked first). The Storm lost 8-2 to the Mustangs on Tuesday. The loss was the Storm's first of the season.
Grace Groulx made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rocky Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Centennial 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Grizzlies have posted against the Patriots since May 17, 2019.
Megan McCormick made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
McCormick wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Danica Quinn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple was Quinn's first of the season.
Rocky Mountain's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Owyhee, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 23-1.
Owyhee's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Storm have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Rocky Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Owyhee continue to outrun the ball?
Owyhee came out on top in a nail-biter against Rocky Mountain when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Grizzlies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
