2A Region 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bennie Hinton of Richton ran for the longest rushing play in 2A Region 8 this season against Enterprise last week. Hinton's team topped the Yellowjackets as he sprinted for 81 yards on the play and finished with 165 in all.
Richton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Enterprise, 40-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for Stephen Rice's team.
Jeffery Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as Bassfield defeated Tylertown. Smith tallied two receptions for 52 yards. Curtis Mikell helped Bassfield's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Jatarrian Clark was the most productive running back in 2A Region 8 this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 211 yards as Lumberton bested the Chiefs. Keshod Willis also contributed to the rushing game with 80 yards on the ground.
Jacob Finley put up the best numbers through the air as the Rebels topped Brooks Burns's team. He finished with five completions for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Finley's favorite target this week was Dylan Stringer, who caught two passes for 45 yards.
On the ground, Bassfield's Jerome Keys has rushed for 665 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Denver Magee. The North Forrest star has 20 catches for 383 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when East Marion takes on Lance Mancuso's team. The Eagles are in fourth place, while the Yellowjackets are in second place.
North Forrest and Bay Springs played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with North Forrest eventually emerging with a 21-20 victory.
