Calvary Day (Savannah, Ga.) jumped out to an early lead against Claxton (Ga.) and never looked back on the way to a 49-12 victory on Saturday.
The Cavaliers put up 21 points in the opening frame. Calvary Day scored on a rushing touchdown, a touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Marc Elton.
After taking the lead on a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, CD led 35-0 at the half.
The Savannah school expanded its lead to 43 points entering the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers scored two times in the third, including once on a passing touchdown.
The Tigers' Cornelius Taylor played well. The sophomore wide receiver ran for one touchdown.
Calvary Day's standout player in the win was Elton. The sophomore ran for one touchdown.
CD went into the matchup giving up only 15.6 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Cavaliers came away with a 46-40 victory.
The loss comes after Claxton defeated Savannah Country Day 54-0 last week. The loss snapped Claxton's 2-game winning streak.
Calvary Day (7-1) will play a A Region 3A game against Portal next week, while Claxton (5-3) will take on Jenkins County also in a A Region 3A game.
