The Ellwood City Wolverine can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They blew past Freedom Area 67-25 on the road. Given Ellwood City's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 685th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Ellwood City to victory were Nathan Williams and Joseph Roth. Williams scored 19 points along with five rebounds, while Roth dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Roth is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chris Smiley, who scored four points along with six assists and three steals.
Ellwood City has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Freedom Area, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with that loss, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Ellwood City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Lions at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. New Brighton has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21. As for Freedom Area, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd.
