Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Lexann Maldonado, who dropped a double-double on 13 boards and ten blocks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in blocks. Ryan Mayers was another key player, putting up 12 points.
Meanwhile, Holly Hill Academy played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Curtis Baptist, falling 66-29. The Raiders were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-13.
Despite the loss, Holly Hill Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Milly Kate Prescott posted 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Crisp, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Holly Hill Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.
Cross' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points over those games. As for Holly Hill Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cross has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Holly Hill Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Cross against Holly Hill Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as the squad secured a 51-12 victory. In that match, Cross amassed a halftime lead of 30-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
