The Wauseon Indians will challenge the Patrick Henry Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wauseon will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Evergreen, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Indians walked away with a 10-5 win over the Vikings on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Thad Reckner made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Reckner was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Jack Altstaetter was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Ike Conrad was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Wauseon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Patrick Henry hadn't done well against Archbold recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Patriots came out on top against the Blue Streaks by a score of 4-1.
Mack Hieber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Patrick Henry saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Jardine, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Patrick Henry's win bumped their record up to 5-2-1. As for Wauseon, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-3.
