Thai Cottrell of Oceanside ran for the longest rushing play in Avocado - West this season against Vista last week. Cottrell's team topped the Panthers as he sprinted for 71 yards on the play and finished with 82 in all.
Israel Paopao and Cottrell provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Vista. The connection went for 74 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.
Oceanside's dynamic duo of Paopao and Cottrell proved tough for Dan Williams' team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Paopao threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns and Cottrell had 76 yards receiving. Jace Whittaker helped Oceanside's passing attack out by catching three balls for 71 yards.
Aaryn Dorsett was the most productive running back in the league this week. In nine carries, he ran for 93 yards as Carlsbad topped the Panthers. Teammate Shawn Cameron added to the ground attack by rushing for 76 yards.
The Pirates' Paopao and Mikah Holder have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Avocado - West in both passing and receiving yards. Paopao has thrown for 1559 yards this season, while Holder, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 27 catches for 558 yards. The Lancers' Cameron leads the league in rushing yards with 711.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Carlsbad takes on El Camino. At the moment, Thadd MacNeal's team is in fourth, while the Wildcats are in third.
Oceanside extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Vista, 44-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
