The Silver Fighting Colts will challenge the St. Pius X Sartans at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Silver is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Valencia as they made off with a 14-1 victory. The win was nothing new for the Fighting Colts as they're now sitting on ten straight.
Maria Ruelaz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Vanessa Lucero, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI.
Silver was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in 16 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Pius X got the win against Kirtland Central on Friday by a conclusive 12-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sartans.
Lilee Zarate spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jordan Chavez, who fired off four doubles, two stolen bases, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four doubles gave her a new career-high. Sophia Trujillo was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Silver pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for St. Pius X, the victory got them back to even at 13-13.
Silver took their win against St. Pius X in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 17-3 score. Will the Fighting Colts repeat their success, or do the Sartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
