Eastern Greene hasn't had much luck against Clay City recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds will look to defend their home field against the Eels at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Greene is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Eastern Greene lost 8-2 to Orleans on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Thunderbirds have suffered against the Bulldogs since May 16, 2015.
Eastern Greene saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Whitfield, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Clay City got the win against North Knox on Saturday by a conclusive 10-1. Considering the Eels have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Logan Stoelting was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Stoelting was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Reed Sawyer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Mason Sheese was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Clay City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Eastern Greene and nudges their season record down to 15-5. As for Clay City, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Eastern Greene came out on top in a nail-biter against Clay City when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. Will the Thunderbirds repeat their success, or do the Eels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
