Poca hasn't had much luck against Herbert Hoover recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Dots will be taking part in a tournament against the Huskies at 8:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Poca comes in on nine and Herbert Hoover on six.
On Tuesday, Poca was able to grind out a solid victory over Roane County, taking the game 3-1.
Poca was especially dominant in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-27, 27-25, 25-12.
Poca found their leader in sophomore Christiana Childers, who had six digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Herbert Hoover earned a 2-0 win over Huntington on Thursday.
Herbert Hoover never let Huntington on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 26-24.
Poca better focus on containing Kylie Hackney and Lilli Lancaster as the pair were huge in Herbert Hoover's win. Hackney had 15 assists and six digs, while Lancaster had three digs, two aces, and one block. That's the most aces Lancaster has posted over her last nine matches.
Herbert Hoover's victory bumped their record up to 23-2-1. As for Poca, their win bumped their record up to 18-0-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Poca has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Herbert Hoover struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Poca came up short against Herbert Hoover in their previous meeting back in September of 2023, falling 2-0. Can the Dots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
