The Independence Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 47-26 walloping at the hands of Kofa. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Independence in their matchups with Kofa: they've now lost three in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kofa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shantal Montiel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Irene Martinez, who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Independence's defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-9. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.2 points per game. As for Kofa, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will take on Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kofa, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Glendale at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Glendale is ranked 251st, while Kofa is ranked 229th).
