Oak Hill is 1-7 against Liberty since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Red Devils will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Liberty will be up against a hot Oak Hill squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over South Charleston on Wednesday. While the Red Devils didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mary Butcher spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Oak Hill got a massive performance out of Meeka Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sadie Branch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Oak Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Liberty made sure to put some runs up on the board against WestSide on Wednesday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Renegades with a sharp 11-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Renegades: they've now won six in a row.
Maddie Cox made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Liberty let Alyssa Scarbro and Katie Mullens run wild. Scarbro scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Mullens scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Mullens has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Hartshorn, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Oak Hill's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Liberty, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Oak Hill suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Liberty when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Red Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
