The Oceanside Mariners are taking a road trip to take on the Morse Shipbuilders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oceanside's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Morse's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Oceanside had taken Medomak Valley down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Monday. The Mariners might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-1 to the Panthers, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Mariners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jake Watkinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oceanside saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dom Frisone, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Morse entered their tilt with Lincoln Academy on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Eagles 16-1. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Shipbuilders this season.
Caleb Harvey was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Nolan Becker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Morse was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive games.
Morse pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Oceanside, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Oceanside has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Oceanside skirted past Morse 6-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
