Rio Grande hasn't had much luck against Los Lunas recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Ravens will welcome the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Rio Grande made easy work of East Mountain and carried off a 24-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ravens.

Rio Grande got a massive performance out of Alyssa Maes, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Maes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ceanna Sanchez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Rio Grande kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Los Lunas faced Atrisco Heritage Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 7-1 win. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Brooke Baca spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaslene Duran, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Haidyn Garley, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Los Lunas' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Rio Grande, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rio Grande hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .485. However, it's not like Los Lunas struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rio Grande suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Los Lunas when the teams last played on April 8th. Will the Ravens have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
