The Blount Leopards will be playing in front of their home fans against the Jackson Aggies at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Blount was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 62-58 to Mary G. Montgomery. While losing is never fun, Blount can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Mary G. Montgomery is ranked eighth).
Blount's defeat came about despite a quality game from Andrew Williams, who scored 26 points along with 3 steals. Williams is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Beck, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Jackson had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Fruitdale 72-15 on the road.
Jackson relied on the efforts of Micah Caster, who scored 12 points along with 5 assists and 4 steals, and William Joseph Taylor, who scored 15 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Keeyun Chapman, who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds.
Their wins bumped Blount to 4-4 and Mary G. Montgomery to 8-0.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Blount have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.4 threes per game. However, it's not like Jackson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
