Miami Springs hasn't had much luck against Belen Jesuit recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Miami Springs Golden Hawks will square off against the Belen Jesuit Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Miami Springs is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
While Miami Springs' win against Grace Christian Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Miami Springs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over Grace Christian Academy on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Hawks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Kaiser Alvarez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Miami Springs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Magdiel Estevez, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Michael Maiquez also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Belen Jesuit made sure to put some runs up on the board against Southwest on Saturday. Belen Jesuit blew past Southwest 11-5.
Marcelo Llorente looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.
On the hitting side, Orlando Montiel was incredible, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Gross, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Belen Jesuit kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.
Miami Springs' win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-1. As for Belen Jesuit, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Miami Springs has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Belen Jesuit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
