The Horizon Hawks waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They walked away with a 72-63 victory over Rocky Mountain. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Horizon's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lindie Holland, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holland has scored all season. Madyn Kassatly was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Rocky Mountain still got an impressive performance from Meela Delap, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sara Chicco, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Horizon pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Rocky Mountain, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Horizon will take on the Lambkins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Collins knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Hawks like a good challenge. As for Rocky Mountain, they and the Coyotes will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Monarch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
