Provo hasn't had much luck against Mountain View recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will host the Bruins at 3:30 p.m. Provo has given up an average of 13.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Provo is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game last Thursday. They came up short against Payson, falling 17-0.
Meanwhile, Mountain View came into Wednesday's contest having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Pine View on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-12 victory. The Bruins not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th.
Brinlee Gillman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lucy Clark and Saralynn Hair did most of the damage at the plate: Clark scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Hair went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Clark a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Callie Huff, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .644. They are 5-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Provo's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Mountain View, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Provo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Mountain View struggles in that department as they've averaged .401. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Provo might still be hurting after the 19-2 defeat they got from Mountain View in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
