Baseball Game Preview: Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack vs. St. Laurence Vikings

Saint Ignatius College Prep is 0-7 against St. Laurence since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Wolfpack will host the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Saint Ignatius College Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

While Saint Ignatius College Prep's victory against Aurora Central Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolfpack sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Chargers on Friday. While the Wolfpack didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Saint Ignatius College Prep got a great performance from Alec McAfee as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, McAfee posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Alec Gunderson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Joseph Toney also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, St. Laurence entered their tilt with Huntley on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Red Raiders a 6-0 shutout. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

St. Laurence pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Saint Ignatius College Prep suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to St. Laurence in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Wolfpack avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
