Baseball Recap: St. Johns Country Day Sets Scoring Season-High Against Maclay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Johns Country Day). Everything went their way against the Maclay Marauders on Saturday as the St. Johns Country Day Spartans made off with a 12-2 victory. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

St. Johns Country Day got a massive performance out of Nick Bowden, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave Bowden a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Cole, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

St. Johns Country Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.

St. Johns Country Day pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Maclay, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Johns Country Day will challenge Flagler Palm Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Johns Country Day will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Maclay, they will square off against Blountstown at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Maclay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
