The Archbishop Ryan Raiders will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Archbishop Wood Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Archbishop Ryan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Archbishop Ryan made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Raiders fell just short of the Friars by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Raiders have suffered against the Friars since May 7, 2018.
Sean Cahill and Pat Fitzgerald did some serious damage despite the final result: Cahill went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Fitzgerald went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Fitzgerald's first of the season. Aiden Goldberg was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday Archbishop Wood's undefeated season almost came to an end. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Cardinal O'Hara 3-1.
Archbishop Wood also got a great performance from Brady Sell as he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Sell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luca Nardone, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Archbishop Ryan's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Archbishop Wood, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Archbishop Ryan's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Archbishop Wood, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Archbishop Ryan continue to outrun the ball?
Archbishop Ryan skirted past Archbishop Wood 2-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
