The Butte Valley Bulldogs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They rang in the new year with a 76-64 victory over Hayfork. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Hayfork's loss came despite strong showings from Tatem Wiley and Levi Cavalli. Wiley scored 20 points, while Cavalli scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Evan Pickett was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Hayfork were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The win got Butte Valley back to even at 5-5. As for Hayfork, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Butte Valley will head out on the road to face off against Hayfork at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hayfork knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Butte Valley likes a good challenge.
