Mission San Jose hasn't had much luck against Kennedy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Warriors will head out to take on the Titans at 4:00 p.m.
Mission San Jose is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Mt. Eden, falling 6-0.
Mission San Jose got a good showing from Liman Ley, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mission San Jose saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nikhil Mehta, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Kennedy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mission San Jose on Monday. The Titans' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 10-0 shutout. With that win, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Ethan Kennedy made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Kennedy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Michael Pickett, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March. Nolan Francis was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Kennedy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Kennedy's record is now 7-9. As for Mission San Jose, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-15.
Mission San Jose might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Kennedy in their previous meeting on Monday. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
