Softball Recap: Mathews Beats Maplewood for Their Third Straight Victory

Mathews extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 15-3 in the process. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Maplewood Rockets, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since April 12th.

As for Maplewood, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 12-3. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Maplewood's part, Addison Marker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. Marker has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maplewood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Krieg, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathews will take on Berea-Midpark at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maplewood, they will face off against Badger at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
