The Sugar-Salem Diggers are taking a road trip to face off against the Filer Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sugar-Salem will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Thursday, Sugar-Salem earned a 7-4 win over Marsh Valley.
The team relied heavily on Kambry Bartholick, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Christensen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Filer). They put the hurt on Mountain Home with a sharp 19-9 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Ava Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Heidi Winegar was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Kyra Eskelsen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Filer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Sugar-Salem's record is now 6-2. As for Filer, their record now sits at 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sugar-Salem has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Filer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
