Chardon is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Tallmadge is on an eight-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hilltoppers will host the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
While Chardon's win against Perry wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hilltoppers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Pirates a 1-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hilltoppers have posted since April 14th.
The result came thanks to Alexa Anderson's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Emma Anderson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Tallmadge unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Walsh Jesuit.
Larissa Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Sophia Paonessa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Chardon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tallmadge, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chardon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Tallmadge struggles in that department as they've averaged .384. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
