The Corvallis Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Laurel Locomotives at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Corvallis has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Corvallis is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Park on Friday as they made off with a 20-14 win.
Savanna Johnson was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Isabella Cardullo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Corvallis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Laurel faced Hamilton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Locomotives came out on top against the Broncs by a score of 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Locomotives.
Adrienne Roth made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Andersen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Styles, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Corvallis' record now sits at 5-7. As for Laurel, their record is now 15-6.
Corvallis suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Laurel when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
