The Mercedes Tigers won the last time they faced the Pace Vikings, and things went their way on Friday too. Mercedes blew past Pace 51-25. Given Mercedes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while Pace is ranked 1317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mercedes got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaymie Flores out in front who scored 15 points along with five steals. The game was Flores' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Randi Lara, who scored 12 points.
Mercedes has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Pace, they bumped their record down to 6-19 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercedes is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Edcouch-Elsa at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Edcouch-Elsa is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Pace, they will head out on the road to face off against Donna North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Donna North comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
