El Paso-Gridley is 2-7 against Deer Creek-Mackinaw since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Titans will head out to square off against the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m.
Monday just wasn't the day for El Paso-Gridley's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tri-Valley on Monday. The Titans just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
El Paso-Gridley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Kelsey, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deer Creek-Mackinaw). They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over Ridgeview on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Chiefs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Parker Eggenberger made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
In other batting news, Chuck Hathaway was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Drew Swadinsky was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Deer Creek-Mackinaw's record is now 3-5. As for El Paso-Gridley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. El Paso-Gridley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Deer Creek-Mackinaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
El Paso-Gridley couldn't quite get it done against Deer Creek-Mackinaw when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
