6A Central Valley recap Oct. 3, 2012
Sam Tweedt and Jaylynn Bailey provided fans with a highlight when they connected against McNary. The longest such play in 6A Central Valley this season, the connection resulted in 85 yards.
West Salem extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lincoln, 44-21. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
South Salem's dynamic duo of Tweedt and Bailey proved tough for the Celtics to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Tweedt threw for 163 yards and one touchdown and Bailey had 91 yards receiving. Chris Stafford helped South Salem's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Devvon Gage was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 146 yards on 18 carries as Sprague topped McNary. Teammate John Marshall added to the ground attack by rushing for 130 yards.
The Olympians' Jon Schaub and Nicholas Moran have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Central Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Schaub has thrown for 937 yards this season, while Moran, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 19 catches for 338 yards. South Salem's Bailey leads the league in rushing yards with 713.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when McKay takes on West Salem. The Scots are in fourth place, while Shawn Stanley's team is in first place.
There should be lots of points scored when Sprague and Scott Dufault's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Jay Minyard's team comes in having scored 167 this season, while the Saxons have scored 177. The Olympians scored 36 points last week as they bested Grant.
South Salem took down Isaac Parker's team 47-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Bailey ran for 72 yards in the win.
