After a string of five wins, the Florence Gophers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Gilbert Christian 60-54. Florence has not had much luck with Gilbert Christian recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Florence had strong showings from Logan Stenson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Adrian Taufaasau, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Stenson hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Darren Swain, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Gilbert Christian had a senior duo take command as Keon Talgo scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals and Lopemi. Omole dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Talgo hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Logan Lucero was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Florence's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Gilbert Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Florence will head out on the road to challenge Coolidge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gilbert Christian, they will be playing at home against Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Benjamin Franklin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 362 points over their last five games.
