Softball Recap: Independence Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Independence waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Columbia Central Lions as they made off with a 10-3 victory. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 1-0 win the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Kerrigan Riebe and Brylie Waechter were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Riebe didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Waechter tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Riebe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Riebe went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Waechter scored two runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs Waechter has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Logan Riebe and Piper Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Riebe went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Johnson scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Johnson has posted over her last six contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy McDow, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Independence now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Columbia Central, they dropped their record down to 11-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will host Brentwood at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Columbia Central, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Warren County at 5:00 p.m.
