Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Cabrillo Jaguars walked away with it. They walked away with a 71-60 win over the Lancers on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, La Salle saw an underclassman step up: Emmitt Claiborne scored 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Claiborne has scored all season. Omar Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Cabrillo pushed their record up to 17-13 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for La Salle, their loss dropped their record down to 17-12.
Cabrillo will take on Temecula Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cabrillo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. La Salle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
