Mills is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Notre Dame is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Regents at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mills will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating St. Ignatius College Preparatory, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Vikings blew past the Wildcats 8-1 on Friday.
Kalia Woo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jazzy Maske was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Sofia Kwan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame never let their opponents score last Wednesday. They put the hurt on South San Francisco with a sharp 11-0 win.
Notre Dame got a massive performance out of U'Ilani Wells, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kamille Beals, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mills is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Notre Dame struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mills came out on top in a nail-biter against Notre Dame when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Regents turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
