The Munster Mustangs and the Morgan Township Cherokees will round out the year against one another at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday at. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Munster entered their tilt with Thornton Fractional South with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Munster blew past Thornton Fractional South 65-38 at home. Given Munster's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 76th in Indiana, while Thornton Fractional South is ranked 214th in Illinois), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Munster got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gracyn Gilliard out in front who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Gilliard has scored at least 25% of Munster's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lia Sotiropoulos, who went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 2 assists.
Meanwhile, Morgan Township beat Wheeler on Tuesday by the very same score they won with last week: 49-25. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Morgan Township.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morgan Township to victory, but perhaps none more so than Peyton Honchar, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Shiloh DeBoard, who scored 13 points.
Munster has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Morgan Township, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
