The Alleman Pioneers are taking a road trip to square off against the Farmington Farmers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Alleman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Alleman took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Illini West, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pioneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Chargers on Thursday.
Gavin Awbrey was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Cael Kuster, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Farmington was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against Knoxville as they made off with an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Farmers, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Tristan Hendy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ben Marvel, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Henry Easley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Farmington is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Alleman, their record now sits at 15-7.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alleman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
