The IC Catholic Prep Knights will challenge the St. Bede Bruins at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. IC Catholic Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
On Friday, IC Catholic Prep made easy work of Saint Ignatius College Prep and carried off a 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Madelynn Dinino spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Sofia Bucaro and Kelly Cahill did most of the damage at the plate: Bucaro went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Cahill went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Bucaro has posted over her last 12 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Hoffman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
IC Catholic Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, while St. Bede put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Putnam County. The Bruins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over the Panthers. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Macy Strauch's shutout, as she gave up just eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, St. Bede saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Slingsby, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Slingsby is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
IC Catholic Prep's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-11. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Bede, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. IC Catholic Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like St. Bede struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
IC Catholic Prep was able to grind out a solid win over St. Bede in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
