The Penasco Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 22 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 58-15 win over Mora on the road. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Penasco also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Penasco's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rochelle Lopez, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Atencio, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Penasco's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Mora, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Penasco won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mesa Vista at 5:30 p.m. on January 5th. Mesa Vista is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61 points per game. Mora's road trip will continue as they head out to face Escalante at 11:30 a.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Escalante is ranked 102nd, while Mora is ranked 121st).
