The Southside Christian Sabres will face off against the Palmetto Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Southside Christian is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Powdersville on Tuesday. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 10-2.
Meanwhile, Palmetto got themselves on the board against Carolina Academy on Tuesday, but Carolina Academy never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Trojans. Considering the Mustangs have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ella Kate Fowler and Halle Tompkins made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Fowler pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tompkins struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. At bat, Fowler went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Tompkins got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those runs were Tompkins' first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachel Fields, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-2. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carrigan Holbert, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Palmetto lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 4-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Palmetto's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Southside Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Southside Christian suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Palmetto in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Sabres have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
