IV Section IV recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Cortez, who defeated 99th ranked Combs, 27-21.
Coolidge extended the longest winning streak in IV Section IV this week by beating Coronado, 27-20. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Bears.
Seton Catholic's dynamic duo of Kyle Johnson and Brandon Garcia proved tough for Florence to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Johnson threw for 249 yards and 5 touchdowns and Garcia had 119 yards receiving. George Wolter helped Seton Catholic's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 56 yards.
Garcia made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Sentinels bested the Gophers. The 5-foot-9 sophomore pulled down 1 interception and forced 1 fumble.
He went 12-19 with 0 interceptions.
Florence's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Gophers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bobby Herrera has thrown for 1,259 yards and 9 touchdowns this season, while Matt Ramirez has 18 catches for 452 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Coolidge takes on second place Seton Catholic. Coolidge beat the Dons last week, while Seton Catholic defeated Florence.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Rex Bowser's team takes on Cayle Ferguson's team. The Sentinels' offense has scored 236 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Bears have allowed only 59 on the year.
Seton Catholic took down Steve McKane's team 60-20 last week, the largest margin of any game. Johnson ran for 12 yards in the win.
