Karns City hasn't had much luck against Clarion Area recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Gremlins will head out to face off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. Karns City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Karns City managed to slip by Freeport the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Gremlins came up short against the Yellowjackets on Friday, falling 7-1. That's two games in a row now that the Gremlins have lost by exactly six runs.
Karns City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Dittman, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Joey O'Donnell also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Clarion Area had just enough and edged out Redbank Valley 3-2 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
Derek Smail made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Smail was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
This is the second loss in a row for Karns City and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Clarion Area, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
