Smidt Tech is 1-8 against Animo De La Hoya since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Smidt Tech Grey Wolves' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Animo De La Hoya Boxers at 2:00 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Smidt Tech has not done well against Los Angeles Leadership Academy recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Smidt Tech enjoyed a cozy 49-34 win over Los Angeles Leadership Academy.
Aaron Merlos continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 33 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nathan Lopez, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Animo De La Hoya made off with a 31-30 win over Camino Nuevo Dalzell Lance Campus. The win was just what Animo De La Hoya needed coming off of a 68-30 loss in their prior match.
Smidt Tech's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Animo De La Hoya, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.
Smidt Tech came out on top in a nail-biter against Animo De La Hoya when the teams last played back in November of 2023, sneaking past 56-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smidt Tech since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
