DeSoto is 2-8 against Hillsboro since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The DeSoto Dragons will head out on the road to challenge the Hillsboro Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, DeSoto lost to Jefferson on the road by a decisive 75-59 margin. While losing is never fun, DeSoto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 389th, while Jefferson is ranked 189th).
Despite their defeat, DeSoto saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aidyn Mitchell, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Evan Mcclinton was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Notre Dame 71-68.
DeSoto has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Hillsboro, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
DeSoto came up short against Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in January, falling 60-49. Can DeSoto avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
