Basketball Recap: Cherokee Trail Takes a Loss

Cherokee Trail lost against Regis Jesuit back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Cherokee Trail Cougars took a 73-57 bruising from the Regis Jesuit Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Raiders are ranked tenth).

When it comes to explaining why Cherokee Trail lost, don't look at Nathan Baack. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points. The game was Baack's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Scott, who posted 12 points.

Regis Jesuit was led to victory by Eric Fiedler and Alec Roumph. Fiedler dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards, while Roumph went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points. With that strong performance, Fiedler is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. Zachary Harlan was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Cherokee Trail has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. As for Regis Jesuit, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Cherokee Trail will square off against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Regis Jesuit, they will host Horizon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Regis Jesuit's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
